Rules of Engagement – Professional

This course is designed to give professionals a deep understanding of the law surrounding use of force. It has been designed with the benefit of significant operational experience in frontline policing, investigation, and professional security. Rules of Engagement goes far beyond basic, required learning for police and security roles, and will equip you and your staff with the tools to make informed use-of-force decisions, and to make professional statements regarding use-of-force in self-defence or in the execution of duty.

As a serving police officer, I found it very useful... explains the nature of real-life violence and how to use force in a lawful way to protect yourself when confronted with violence.

This gives my students the kind of legal preparation they deserve to have. Now I've done this course I can't imagine training or instructing without it. We teach violent technique, at the end of the day, and there has to be an understanding that goes with that in terms of the law and what's right or wrong.

Go Beyond the Basic

Rules of Engagement goes far beyond the requirements of basic SIA training for security professionals.

It even goes beyond the required Officer Safety Training given to Police, and has already been adopted by one home office force as a supplement to the mandated Officer Safety Training.

It is unique in the industry, and breaks new ground in the understanding of the law surrounding self-defence.

It will keep your staff - and your company's reputation - safe and intact, even in the aftermath of violent incidents.

For both new police officers and security professionals, it is an indispensable piece of learning.

Our Rules of Engagement Course will teach you to...

Understand the Law

Rules of Engagement will give you a professional understanding of the law surrounding use of force in self-defence. We explain what the often touted concepts of reasonable, proportionate and necessary actually mean to investigators and the courts, how legal decisions are made, and what you can and can’t do, in a legal sense.

Make Better Decisions

We break down use-of-force justification so that you can make better moral and tactical decisions and understand the reasoning, both tactical and legal, for making these decisions.

We inform the decision-making process so that you can act with less doubt or hesitation, confident that the law is on your side when you act in self-defence or the defence of others.

Evidence Your Actions

We walk you through the investigatory procedure from the point of view of a professional investigator, helping you to understand how to evidence and justify the actions you took to defend yourself or others in the face of a violent assault. By understanding these processes, we remove the mystery and guesswork that has so often surrounded self-defence law.
